Organization Structure

The Green Foundation Volunteer Service (GREFOS) is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, EIN Number 46-3768972. The Foundation was established in Washington State in 2012 and works in partnership with the Green Foundation Volunteer Service, a non-profit in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

Vision

The Vision of the Organization is to create sustainable, healthy, self-reliant communities, in which families are self-supporting, making a living wage and sending their children to school.  providing social and educational services to the underserved population in rural Zanzibar and improve the living conditions and change lives.  We strive to accomplish these goals by

  • Providing clean water sources (e.g., wells)
  • Building neighborhood schools
  • Building toilets
  • Developing local biogas resources
  • Supporting local community groups with job creation for women

Our mission is to develop social and environmental resilience in rural Zanzibar by supporting community-based projects and educational exchange programs focusing on youth development.

 In undertaking its mission, GREFOS

  • Builds connections between students in the US and youth in rural areas of Zanzibar
  • Provides educational opportunities by building schools for all youth
  • Installs water pumps to reduce the distance from which to fetch water
  • Builds a clinic that provides basic healthcare services and education to girls and young women
  • Provides opportunities for women to earn a living wage, hence improving their lifestyles
  • Provides adult education services

What we do at GREFOS

›Facilitate the community’s creation and management of alternative fuel sources.

›Allow more work-life balance versus disproportionate time collecting wood for fuel.

›Increase the sustainability of Tanzania’s forests and wildlife for future generations.

›Create a stronger foundation for communities to thrive in healthy environments, save money, bolster entrepreneurship, and educate children.

›Provide key training, new insights and opportunities, and future leaders in green energy, technological innovation, and sustainable community growth and development.
